TelltaleTots: step into a wonderful world of storytelling, crafting, music making, playing and exploring
This is a baby and toddler activity like you have never tried before. Created by children’s writer and local mum Kirstie Watson, each session is themed around an original story: enter magical, interactive worlds with your little one, and then take your own unique “tale” home with you!
When you arrive, your Tot can dive straight in and play with the Story Discovery Area. Woodlands, the sea bed, a monster party, a witch’s house – all of the toys and props set the scene, and your child is free to play with it all as their fellow Tots arrive.
Everyone sits with their grown-up around the Story Discovery Area, and each Tot then gets a story bag – a set of props to hold and explore, and to use during the telling of the story. Then, illustrated with large storyboard pictures, the interactive story starts…and it always ends with a song, accompanied by the musical instrument each child has in their bag.
After this, the magic of the story comes to life all over again on the craft tables, which are stocked with glitter, glue, stickers, stamps, feathers, eyes, sparkles, tissue paper, scraps of all kinds and colours…and your own A5 story book, ready for you and your Tot to colour, illustrate and personalise with all of the crafting materials.
Younger ones may not have the stamina of the older Tots for a longer crafting session, so after about 15 minutes, the Big Bag of Interesting Things comes out. Fish-shaped hats for dressing up, bottles filled with water and glitter, balloons, flashing bouncy balls, and even a sledge for parent-propelled sleigh rides around the room: just some of the wonders for your little one to explore!
Everyone can join in when they are ready, but for those who would like to craft for longer, there is another little craft to make: always simple but clever, and always related to the story.
There’s a new theme each month, and sessions are held once a month in each venue, in a variety of locations in and around Milton Keynes:
- Swinfen Harris Church Hall, Stony Stratford x2 (once on a Saturday, and once during the week)
- Heron’s Lodge, Loughton
- Lace Hill Community Centre
- Green Park Community Centre, Newport Pagnell
- Thornborough Village Hall
Come and experience the magic of a brand new, interactive story with your little one, and create your very own book to take home and enjoy together. This month, you’re invited to a Superhero Adventure! Check the website for class details: http://www.telltaletots.co.uk/ and follow the Facebook page for latest news: https://www.facebook.com/telltaletots/
It’s £8 a session, and £7 if you book early enough to take advantage of the early bird discount, and you can also sign up for email alerts to keep you in the loop about what’s happening when. Sessions are aimed at Tots over 12 months old, but siblings younger than this are welcome at no charge.
Some of the glowing Telltale Tots testimonials:
“LOVE LOVE LOVE Telltale Tots. One of our favourite mornings every month. My 20 month old daughter, Edith, particularly enjoys the crafts at the end of the session. It’s what first made me realise just how much she enjoys arts and crafts (and where her obsession with glitter started!). Kirstie is warm, friendly, enthusiastic and incredibly creative to come up with such wonderful stories and crafts each month. I couldn’t recommend it highly enough. It’s fun for kids and adults too”
“My girls (1 & 3) love going to Telltale Tots, there’s never a moment to get bored! They really enjoy the story and how much interaction there is, it’s always exciting for them at the beginning to see what props are going to be in the bag! Craft time after is great, especially if you love glitter! The toys and dressing up are really good, particularly for the younger ones. I’m always wary of trying new groups but Kirstie is so welcoming and the children find her so engaging, I wish there were more sessions we could go to!”
“Attended the Magical Woodland themed session at Cranfield during the Summer Holidays with my 4yr, 2yr, and 7mo and we had such a great time! I don’t attempt many groups with all of them as they like different things, but this really captivated all their attentions, and it was the stillest I’ve known the oldest two to sit for any amount of time! They really enjoyed it and it was a refreshing change to the same old group formats that we’ve been too before. Thank you for a fantastic hour”
